On 27 August 1999, Marcelo Salas scored the only goal against Manchester United to win the UEFA Super Cup. Lazio went on to win the Scudetto and Coppa Italia in May 2000, their centenary year: a sequence of successes linking the Chilean number 9 to one of the club's most celebrated seasons.
