This championship is remembered above all for the outcome of the Scudetto fight between Lazio and Juventus, which also involved Perugia. On the last day, May 14, Perugia-Juventus was played, a match that went down in history: the referee Pierluigi Collina decided to suspend the match at 0-0 due to the pitch being unplayable due to heavy rain. The second half started over an hour late. And Mazzone's team, thanks to a play by the Perugian captain Alessandro Calori, brought Juventus down on the finish line of a championship that until a few weeks before seemed to have been won, effectively handing over the Italian flag to the Biancocelesti. Forward Nicola Amoruso contributed 11 goals to safety.
