In the 1995-1996 season, Renzo Ulivieri's Bologna returned to Serie B. Also this season, the Petronians remained in the top ranking thanks to the best defense of the tournament with five defeats out of thirty-eight matches and only 23 goals conceded. On 2 June 1996, in front of more than twenty nine thousand fans, the Felsinei won in the 94th minute with a goal by Giorgio Bresciani against Chievo and returned to Serie A after five years.
