DETAILS

Castel di Sangro third jersey season 1996/1997. Short-sleeved shirt with polo collar with tear-off closure, yellow and red inserts on blue background. Manufacturer Pienne logo sewn on right side, Castel di Sangro logo sublimated on heart side, Lega Calcio patch sewn on right sleeve. Applied on the front the logo of the commercial sponsor and on the back number 14 and lettering BONOMI.

ANECDOTES AND CURIOSITIES

The 1996/1997 season of Castel di Sangro is historical and unforgettable. It was the first time that the Castel di Sangro team participated in Serie B and also the first time that a Castel di Sangro match was broadcast on pay TV. It was a season full of emotions but also marked by a mourning, that of the death in an accident of the players Di Vincenzo and Filippo Biondi, and by an arrest for drug dealing of the player Prete, then released for insufficient evidence. For a few months the president of the Abruzzi club was Gabriele Gravina, later to become president of the FIGC. The enterprise of Castel di Sangro attracted in the city even an American writer, Joe McGinniss, who studied for a whole year the team and the city environment, writing the book Il Miracolo di Castel di Sangro: ovvero promozione e salvzza in Serie B. Claudio Bonomi, a midfielder who grew up in Naples, played with Castel di Sangro for five seasons, scoring 15 goals, including the historic goal against Pescara that paved the way for the Abruzzesi to be saved in Serie B.
