In the 97/98 season, Fiorentina played the sixty-second Serie A championship in its history.
The Brazilian Edmundo arrives in the summer purchasing campaign. Malesani's season will be remembered above all for the amusing occurrence of the first day of the championship: Fiorentina was busy in Udine and with two feats of Batistuta they managed to win 3-2 against Udinese.
