La maglia è bianca con una grande croce asimmetrica blu, realizzata con una fantasia puntinata irregolare che prosegue su una manica. Il colletto a polo è bianco con profili rossi e blu. Sul petto compaiono il logo Erreà e lo sponsor Cellnet in nero; lo stemma del Middlesbrough è posizionato sulla manica. Sul retro spiccano RAVANELLI e il numero 11 in nero.
Nella stagione 1996/1997 Fabrizio Ravanelli approdò al Middlesbrough dopo aver vinto la Champions League con la Juventus. Segnò tre reti al debutto in Premier League contro il Liverpool e contribuì a portare il club a due finali nazionali, in FA Cup e Coppa di Lega. Il Middlesbrough perse entrambe le finali e retrocesse al termine del campionato. La divisa away bianca e blu appartiene quindi a un’annata intensa e singolare nella storia dei Boro.
