Maglia home Giappone della stagione 2002/2004, realizzata da Adidas e personalizzata sul retro con Nakata e il numero 7.

Maglia azzurra intensa con girocollo, profili rossi sulle spalle e sui fianchi, e le caratteristiche tre strisce bianche Adidas lungo le spalle. Sul petto si trovano il marchio tecnico, lo stemma della nazionale giapponese e il numero 7. Il retro è personalizzato con NAKATA e il numero 7 in bianco; maniche corte.

Nel Mondiale 2002 il Giappone partecipò per la prima volta alla competizione in qualità di paese ospitante, insieme alla Corea del Sud. La nazionale allenata da Philippe Troussier superò la fase a gironi e raggiunse gli ottavi, dove venne eliminata dalla Turchia per 1-0.
