ANECDOTES AND CURIOSITIES
Summer '96: while Italy is burning the midnight oil to watch the Atlanta Olympics and while the world is dancing to the rhythm of the Macarena, Toro decides to start the season in Gubbio, an unusual venue chosen for the meeting with the clear intent of staying away from protests. But this could not hide the technical limits: of the relegated team only Cravero remained, back from a year, Maltagliati, Mezzano and captain Cristallini, while the quality leap had to be entrusted to Matjaz Florijancic, Slovenian ex-Cremonese with little genius and many breaks, and to the director Alessio Scarchilli in search of a relaunch. However, the most successful market move was made by the manager Giorgio Vitali in the last days of the negotiations by picking up Marco Ferrante from Parma: arrived in the general indifference, he will become the symbol of Toro for more than a five-year period as well as one of the best scorers in the history of Toro.
TOP PLAYERS: Ferrante, Florijancic, Fiorin, Lombardini, Sommese.
CLASSIFICATION IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP: 9th (Serie B).
