ANECDOTES AND CURIOSITIES
The 96/97 season is that of Udinese's centenary, led by Alberto Zaccheroni; the coach from Romagna lined up the team with his usual 3-4-3 with a trident made up of Bierhoff, Poggi and Amoroso that brought the Friulians to an excellent fifth place. A position that earned the club the first qualification in the history of the club to the UEFA Cup. Extraordinary season of Bierhoff who in that year scored 13 goals in the league only one from a penalty.
