The 1997/1998 season was tragic for Napoli. In 33 years of the Ferlaino era it was the first relegation to Serie B and the worst figures ever in the top flight for Napoli were recorded. The club, in the throes of a financial crisis, sold many prized players and changed 4 coaches: Mutti, Mazzone, Galeone and Montefusco.
