It was a failed season for Vicenza culminated with relegation, just two years after winning the Coppa Italia. It was a year of changes for the refereeing sector. The red card was inserted for fouls from behind and the draw was tried instead of the referee designation, an idea that was immediately set aside after a year of practice.

Domenico "Mimmo" Morfeo was one of the strongest players of his period when he was on the field, so much so that he was compared to Baggio and earned the nickname "Maradonino". Liverpool's season was excellent. The Reds, in fact, fought until the end for the title and won the FA Cup and the Charity Shield. During the FA Cup semifinal against Nottingham Forest there were riots in the stadium. The neutral field of Sheffield, in fact, had been overcrowded and 96 Liverpool fans died in the stands. The challenge for the title against Arsenal this season inspired the well-known film "90° Fever" starring Colin Firth and Mark Strong.
