The 96/97 championship coincides with the celebration of Udinese's centenary, is commemorated in Tarcento on 6 September 1996 in the presence of numerous old glories including the famous "Moon Ray" Arne Selmosson. Gino Pozzo bets on Marcio Amoroso, 22, Flamengo striker, despite having returned from a long stop after having been operated on his knee. It turns out that Amoroso (who arrived in Udine with Zico) has an Italian grandmother and this allows him to obtain citizenship, thus freeing up a place for the purchase of a new non-EU football player: the Egyptian half-winger Hazem Emam.
