ANECDOTES AND CURIOSITIES

On July 8, 1990, the final of the tournament between West Germany and Argentina was played at the Olympic stadium in Rome. From the early hours of the morning, near the Capitoline stadium, there were numerous touts, especially Italians, who tried to sell the match tickets to the fans of the two finalist teams who arrived in the city without being in possession of the precious coupon. The touts, for their part, implemented a real "list of preferences" and tried to sell the coupons, naturally at tripled prices, especially to German supporters and not to Argentine ones. This choice came mainly for two reasons, one economic and one football. As for the first reason, there was the fact that the German mark, the currency then used in Germany, was much stronger than the Argentine peso and therefore the exchange rate with the Italian lira was somewhat more favorable.
